Background :

Medicai co-founder Andrei Blaj represented the Romanian health-tech company at Romanian Digital Day, held at the European Parliament.

He joined a panel on research and innovation, co-organized by ANIS, the Romanian software and services industry association, and Innovation Labs at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest.

The panel gathered Romanian technology leaders to discuss how Europe can convert its tech strengths into competitive growth, touching on research, academia-industry collaboration, public policy and the adoption of private-sector innovation within public systems.

Blaj spoke about the productivity gains AI brings to healthcare and the challenge of bringing private innovation into public hospitals. He described how Medicai, a leading PACS and patient intake platform, cuts down the time clinicians spend piecing together fragmented patient records.

He cited a common oncology scenario, where a patient arrives at a public hospital with a printed file running roughly 100 pages, requiring a doctor to read through it entirely to reconstruct the patient’s history.

With Medicai, the file gets scanned at reception, sorted chronologically, labeled by document type, and enriched with key details such as diagnosis, staging and treatment history.

The feature launched four months ago and now runs in 10 hospitals, handling thousands of patient files monthly. One physician estimated it saved about five hours of manual review for a single patient.

Medicai currently supports more than 100 healthcare organizations across the EU and US, covering care for over 3 million patients, with particular strength in imaging-heavy fields like oncology, neurology, orthopedics and radiology.
