Background
UK HealthCare is bringing health services, school essentials and family fun together at a free Back-to-School Extravaganza in North Lexington, aimed at removing barriers and putting essential resources directly in the hands of local families.
The carnival-style event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the second week of July at Consolidated Baptist Church, 1625 Russell Cave Road, and is open to the public at no cost. UK HealthCare’s Office of Health Disparities is organising the event in partnership with local faith leaders, community organisations and Fayette County Public Schools Family Resource and Youth Services Centres.
Families attending can access free sports physicals and vision screenings, pick up backpacks and school supplies, and explore resources covering internet safety, oral health, nutrition and mental health. The Kid Zone will offer colouring tables, activity books and giveaways, while Kona Ice, hot dogs, popcorn and cotton candy will be available throughout the day.
The Golisano Children’s UK Mobile Clinic will be on site to conduct sports physicals, with appointments required. Families can book a slot by calling or texting 859-487-9153. The Safe Kids programme will also be present, offering child safety education and guidance.
