Background
Italy-based pharmaceutical company Alfasigma has agreed to acquire Nordic Group BV and its subsidiaries from Sever Life Sciences, expanding its specialty medicines business across Europe and other key international markets.
Under the share purchase agreement, Alfasigma will acquire 100% of Nordic Group. The companies did not disclose the financial terms of the deal.
The acquisition will add Nordic Pharma’s rheumatoid arthritis business, led by the Nordimet methotrexate franchise, to Alfasigma’s rheumatology portfolio, which includes Jyseleca. It will also expand Alfasigma’s commercial presence through Nordic Pharma’s direct operations in 18 European countries, as well as platforms in Canada and Japan.
Nordic Pharma also operates in women’s health, critical care and ophthalmology. The company employs 265 people and reported revenue of about €190 million in 2025.
Alfasigma said the transaction supports its strategy of using acquisitions to expand its international specialty and rare disease business. The company is focusing particularly on gastroenterology and immunology while strengthening its presence in areas with significant unmet medical needs.
Alfasigma CEO Francesco Balestrieri said the acquisition would strengthen the company’s European footprint and rheumatology portfolio. He also highlighted the opportunity to combine the companies’ products, scientific expertise and teams.
Nordic Group CEO Charlotte Phelps said Alfasigma was well positioned to support the company’s next stage of growth and highlighted the potential benefits of combining their expertise.
The deal will further expand Alfasigma’s international reach. The company currently distributes products in more than 100 markets and employs around 4,000 people.
Following the transaction, Sever will continue developing its remaining businesses, including Sever Pharma Solutions, Farmaprim, Esperante Development and Nordic Pharma Inc.
