Background
UPMC and United Imaging Healthcare Europe have partnered to introduce the CE-marked uRT-linac 506c radiotherapy system in Italy, marking the first installation of the technology in Europe. The project is being supported through the companies’ collaboration with Fora, a provider of diagnostic and therapy services with a long-standing presence in the healthcare sector.
The new system combines a diagnostic-quality CT scanner and a linear accelerator on a single platform, allowing doctors to perform imaging and treatment through a more streamlined process. The technology is designed to support personalised radiotherapy by providing high-definition CT scans immediately before each treatment session.
Healthcare specialists said the system enables clinicians to monitor changes in a patient’s anatomy and tumour condition in real time. This allows treatment plans to be adjusted when necessary, helping improve precision and reducing the time required for the overall treatment workflow.
The uRT-linac 506c also uses artificial intelligence to support several stages of the radiotherapy process. Its capabilities include automated contouring of organs and target areas, treatment planning and treatment delivery, helping healthcare teams work more efficiently.
UPMC Italy said the partnership will strengthen access to advanced cancer treatment technologies and support better patient care. The organisation noted that combining clinical expertise with innovative technology can help improve treatment outcomes.
UI HealthCare Europe mentioned that the partnership represents the common determination to make innovative solutions widely available. UI Healthcare Europe is sure that the new technology will help to make next-generation radiotherapy more easily available to Italian patients and even patients all over the European region.
This partnership combines the use of modern medicine and clinical expertise to improve cancer therapy.
