Background
Montenegro is moving ahead with the modernisation of its healthcare system through the construction of the new Podgorica University Clinical Centre, the country’s largest hospital project to date. The €313 million project has been awarded to Bouygues Bâtiment International and is expected to strengthen hospital capacity while developing a leading university medical centre in the Western Balkans.
The project forms part of Montenegro’s wider healthcare reform programme, supported by international donors and driven by the country’s goal of joining the European Union. Along with new hospital infrastructure, the programme includes investments in medical equipment, digital health services and healthcare facilities.
To support the project, the French Healthcare Association, in partnership with Bouygues Bâtiment International, is organising a technical mission to Montenegro. The initiative aims to help French healthcare companies understand the project, connect with key stakeholders and explore business opportunities in the country’s fast-growing healthcare market.
The association said the hospital project extends beyond construction and offers opportunities in biomedical equipment, digital health, laboratories, medical gases, hospital logistics, medical furniture, energy efficiency, maintenance and staff training. Through its Hospital Infrastructure Working Group, the association brings together companies with expertise across these sectors to support major international healthcare projects.
During the mission, participating companies will meet Montenegrin health authorities, project leaders and healthcare institutions. They will also build partnerships with local businesses and identify future investment opportunities.
The initiative is supported by the French Embassy in Montenegro, the French Development Agency, Business France, the Regional Economic Service and local partners. The organisations aim to strengthen economic cooperation while supporting Montenegro’s efforts to build a modern and efficient healthcare system.
