Background :

Pharmactive Biotech Products SLU has announced the launch of Kyoh, a new supplement ingredient designed to support hair follicle function. The company will introduce the product at Vitafoods Europe, scheduled in early May in Barcelona, Spain.

Kyoh is a proprietary botanical extract made from rocket leaves (Eruca sativa), a cruciferous vegetable from the Brassicaceae family. The ingredient is standardised to contain active compounds called Erucosides, along with flavonol glycosides mainly sourced from quercetin, kaempferol, and isorhamnetin. Pharmactive says this is a way to maintain consistency of the product among different batches.

According to Pharmactive, rocket leaves are rich in flavonoids and glucosinolates, both antioxidants and anti-inflammatories. These substances are also potentially beneficial for hair biology due to their ability to protect the body from oxidative stress and stimulate hair follicle functions.

Pharmactive cited a study that was published in the journal Molecules in March 2025. The researchers found out that the extract stimulates the expression of genes that are responsible for producing hair growth factors VEGF and FGF7 after four and 24 hours. In addition, the substance increased NRF2 expression, a marker of antioxidative effects.

As explained by Pharmactive, VEGF is necessary to bring oxygen and other nutrients to the skin of the scalp through the blood vessels. FGF7 is required for keratinocyte development to produce keratin. Based on these findings,

Pharmactive said Kyoh may support hair growth through multiple mechanisms.

Kyoh is sourced from European farmers, and the company said it maintains strict quality control across the supply chain. The ingredient is non-GMO and irradiated. Pharmactive said the product is suitable for both men and women, especially as hair thinning becomes common in midlife and younger consumers seek preventive solutions.
